Yes , it ’s a great achievement of English literature . Yes , it ’s a deep work of phantasmal belief and should be given due consideration . And yet , for some intellect , Paradise Lost stumbles over the same things that forged laughable books do . We ’re going to look at ten mistakes that serial - fable writers make — even the famous 17th century British poet John Milton . And we ’ll take it book by book .
Book One : Slagging Off Other Characters

What also incommode me about this is Milton , even compose in 1667 , all cribbed her extraction story from Athena springing from Zeus ’s head . How far do you have to go back to get a clean rootage story , I ask you ?
Book Three : Spoilers !

He talks about man ’s declivity , he talks about Jesus ’s saving of mankind , he talks about how Satan will finally be defeated once and for all , and how there shall be an unceasing paradise . lease alone that this is a form of a black eye - scoundrel ’s speech , he ’s totally ruin it for those who have n’t read the Bible . Respect other people ’s work , Milton ! Did God really have to speechify all the way through to the end of fourth dimension ? It ’s like a bad crossing , where one issue spoils the other .
Book Four : Sexing it Up
There ’s some unspoilt structure in this book . Satan sneaks down into Eden and cons his way past a guard holy person by pretending to be a cherub who wants to look up to God ’s work . There ’s also an interesting dissection of scholarship , since the angel says it ’s a variant of give tribute to God to study his workplace and attempt to sympathise and admire them – but of course Satan is just looking for weakness . Which means he ’s retconned all the way of life back to before the Old Testament . seem , everyone wants to put their heroes in early cameo , and it seems that everyone like prequels , but placing the savior back before there was even anyone who needed to be salvage seems like a weird move .
Book Seven : Filler , Filler , Filler
Sometimes a four - takings story needs to be padded out to make a six - issue craft paper-back book . Sometimes a minor change needs six unneeded tie - ins to make a line - panoptic alteration . And sometimes a writer think it sound adept to have a ten book story when he really only has fabric for about nine book of account . This is the vitrine in the 7th part of Paradise Lost .
