Danielle Fishelis speaking candidly about the reason why she and herPod Meets Worldcollaborators feared that the program would “ruin"Boy Meets World.
The actress, 42, chatted exclusively with PEOPLE at theiHeartRadio Music Festivalin Las Vegas on Friday, when she revealed that she,Rider StrongandWilliam Friedle— who rewatch every episode ofBoy Meets Worldand share memories and anecdotes of the series on the podcast — thought it might taint fans’ feelings of the sitcom.
“We were worried we might ruin the show,” Fishel, who played the role of Topanga on the series, said. “We don’t want our criticisms or our critiques or our experiences to in any way change what your opinion of the show is. They’re just our honest opinions, and we can’t do it if we’re not going to be honest.”
“I was just left with one overarching feeling about the whole experience as opposed to the show and what its values were, or what its key points were, or how good it was,” she continued. “And so now getting to watch it, I’m like, ‘Man, it’s a really good show,' and what a great experience we had.”
Looking back at the first conversations about potentially launching the podcast, Strong, 43, who starred as Shawn, added, “Ultimately we settled on it as a sort of journey, rather than just watching the show and talking about how great it is, which we all agree, it is actually great. We wanted it to be more of a personal journey for us, and to just be honest.”

Boy Meets Worldran for seven seasons and ended in 2000.
For a few years, Disney+ even satisfied fans’ desire for a reboot withGirl Meets World, which ran from 2014 to 2017 and followed the life of Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga’s daughter, Riley (Rowan Blanchard).
Though both have long come to a close,the cast has remained closefriends throughout the years.
In April, the gang came together tocelebrate William Daniels’ 96th birthdaywith his wife, Bartlett Daniels, ahead of their appearances at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo 2023.

Fishel spoke of thedepth of the friendships among the cast membersduring the panel, explaining, “Over this many years and this much time together in different work atmospheres, you have fights, you have falling outs, you have moments where you come back together.”
“Because we are constantly put back together, there have been times where we’ve needed space from each other, and we’ve taken long distances,” she continued. “Yet, when you really commit to a relationship, when you really commit to this idea that we are always going to be in each other’s lives, the amount of growth and grace and forgiveness and compassion and true knowing of each other that we now have — that we never would have had had we written each other off and said ‘I’m done with you, I don’t want to see you again.’ "
Fishel concluded, “So, like, that commitment to a relationship is such a lesson for everybody.”
