In 2015 , Walt Disney Animation Studiosannounced a Jack and the Beanstalk adaptationcalled Gigantic for release in 2018 . Earlier this year,2018 became 2020 . And now , the film has been table indefinitely .
“ It ’s insufferable to know when we begin a project how the creative cognitive operation will spread out , and sometimes , no matter how much we have sex an idea or how much nerve goes into it , we find that it just is n’t exercise , ” Ed Catmull , the Chief Executive of both Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios , told The Hollywood Reporter “ With Gigantic , we ’ve come to that point , and although it ’s a difficult conclusion , we are ending combat-ready development for now . We are focusing our energies on another project that has been in the works , which we ’ll be sharing more about soon , now set for Thanksgiving 2020 . ”
There ’s no word on what that new film will be .
Gigantic was dress to be directed by Tangled ’s Nathan Greno , who was later link up by Inside Out author Meg LeFauve . It was going to feature songs by Kristen Anderson - Lopez and Robert Lopez , who did the songs for Frozen as well as the upcoming Coco .
And while this is surely a shame , it ’s not really a surprisal . Animation studio are working and reworking films for yr before the public even hear about them . And , not often but sometimes , flick get cancelled ( like Pixar ’s Newt ) or retitled and completely reworked ( like The Emperor ’s New Groove , which was originally Kingdom of the Sun ) .
The next moving-picture show from Disney Animation will be Wreck It Ralph 2 : Ralph Breaks the Internet , which is out November 21 , 2018 .
