Natalie Portman in Dior Haute Couture

92nd Annual Academy Awards, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA - 09 Feb 2020

Hanna Flanagan, Style & Beauty Assistant:There’s nothing I love more than influential fashion, and Natalie Portman delivered tonight in aDior Haute Couturesheer, embroidered maxi gown and full-length cape embroidered with the names of the female directors who weren’t nominated at this year’s Oscars. “I wanted to recognize the women who where not recognized for their incredible work this year in a subtle way,” Portman said of the look. Not only was the feminist statement was powerful, the ensemble itself was just as strong (particularly, the plunging neckline, the metallic tassel belt and the intricate gold detail work). Noteworthy glam: Portman’s textured bob, feathery brows and inner corner eyeliner.

Scarlett Johansson in Oscar de la Renta

Katie Intner, Style & Beauty Fellow:As soon asScarlett Johanssonwalked onto the red carpet, my eyes couldn’t stop looking at the buttery silk and embellished bodice on herOscar de la Renta gown. Before I even saw the back (don’t get me started on the train), I was in awe at the intricate sparkly fringe that extended down the column over nude mesh and the sophisticated pewter hue. The design, whichtook over 300 hours to make, boasts structure with the sharp strapless top and form-fitting shape, but has a soft aesthetic that makes this gown the perfect ensemble to round out awards season with.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Vera Wang Collection

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Alex Apatoff, Lifestyle Director:Though I absolutely appreciate when a red carpet isn’t boring (and this one definitely wasn’t!), it does often leave me with tough decisions about who to crown my favorite of the night. This year it felt like almost everyone’s looks would incite an argument. So I’m playing it safe with a look that was undeniably beautiful (if not super boundary-pushing): Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ elegant, perfectly-fitted navy Vera Wang Collection gown. Criss-cross spaghetti straps in the back gave it a little more interest, while that bonkers Harry Winston diamond necklace really made the whole look complete. And, um, hi, she looks this incredible at 59,after beating cancer. Can I just give her Best Everything?
