As the sixth and final season ofThe Crowndebuts on Netflix, PEOPLE is giving readers an exclusive look inside one of the season’s most-anticipated shows.

In PEOPLE’s new special edition,Christmas at the Palace: A Royal Family Album, available now, costume designer Amy Roberts opens upThe Crown’s closet, sharing insight into the series' most iconic looks.

“Everything on the principals is designed and made in our brilliant workroom,” Roberts says.

As for whether any of the actors kept anything, “they usually have a little favorite, a belt or a necklace…they want one little memory,” she adds.

Also inside the issue: Secrets from the set from set decorator Alison Harvey.

“We have a warehouse of ancient technology,” says Harvey.

As for the interior style at Buckingham Palace, she says, “The Queen (Imelda Staunton) “doesn’t change her decor.” To update eras, Harvey swaps “lampshades and photos.”

On the morning of Dec. 25, the family makes the walk from Sandringham House to 11 a.m. services at St. Mary Magdalene Church, greeting the throngs of well-wishers lining their path.
