Cameron Mathison’s resilience is inspiring to hisGeneral Hospitalco-stars.
While appearing on the Jennifer Hudson Show Wednesday, Mathison opened up about losing his home last month in the wildfires that spread rapidly across Los Angeles. His co-stars, who joined him on the show, praised him for handling such a devastating situation with “grace.”
“I gotta say, I’ve gotten so much love and support from myGHfamily, from all of you,” he said, adding, “It’s one of the most unimaginably overwhelming logistical and emotional traumas that you can imagine.”
He ended with an affirmation of “L.A. strong!” causing the crowd to erupt in applause.
His co-star Donnell Turner chimed in that Mathison continues to exhibit strength through the tough times. He’s a “good guy” that inspires others, Turner said.
Finola Hughes also commented on his poise amid the hardship. “The grace with which he’s handling it is quite something,” she shared.
Laura Wright shared a behind-the-scenes moment she and Mathison shared after his home was destroyed. They were filming a scene in which Wright had to yell at him, so beforehand, she asked if she could hug him.
“And Laura was very sweet, she’s like ‘I’m so sorry but I’ve got to, like, lay into you today, after you just lost your house and everything you owned,’ so thank you,” he said.

Wright recalled Mathison was even enthusiastic about tackling that scene at the time. It was a good distraction from it all, she remembered him saying.

In addition to showing video of the rubble that was left of his own home in the days following the blaze, Mathisonshareda video onInstagrama few weeks after the L.A. fires started, asking others to be sensitive and mindful of how they talk about people losing their homes.

Some may take the stance that “it’s just stuff,” he said, but the actor reminded followers that “everybody’s got a very different relationship with their house.” Those who flip houses, for example, may spend a few years living in a house and then move onto the next, but for him and his family, Mathison said, his home represented a lifetime of memories.
As for the items in the homes lost, Mathison added, they may have been things “from their childhood, to their kids’ childhood and it represents a physical object that is like love.”
