You . Yes you . Do n’t sit around looking so self-satisfied . You ’re not perfect — and now , scientist havethe evidenceto back up that very title .
Everyone knows that DNA once in a while has flaw in it : some are harmless because of the mellow level of redundancy in those life - defining chemical substance irons , while others give rise to genetic conditions that can seriously bear on peoples ’ lives . Until now , though , it ’s been unclear just how imperfect the fair human is . Chris Tyler - Smith , from Cambridge University , explained to NPR :
“ It ’s such an interesting doubt that people had been trying to make estimate from collateral approach for a long time . There were estimates that ranged from just a handful up to 100 or more serious disease - associated mutations . ”

But Tyler - Smith is part of the 1,000 Genomes labor , so he was able to answer the question properly . He ’s helped analyze the genomes of 179 people — spread all over the humankind — to work out the answer . The results arepublished in The American Journal of Human Genetics .
turn over out , the fair person has around 400 fault in their genes — let in at least one or two that are assort with disease . That ’s way , way more than previously expected . In fact , 1 - in-10 people have genetic mutations that should cause a disease , but weirdly none of the people who were analyzed in the field of study were sick . There ’s an answer to that , though . Tyler - Smithexplained to NPR :
“ It ’s a bite surprising that people should be walking around apparently healthy yet we ’re realise known disease - stimulate chromosomal mutation in their genome . But the result was that these tended to be for mild and very often later - onrush condition . Things like heart disease , an increased risk of rise malignant neoplastic disease . ”

So , there we have it . inherited trial impression that nobody ’s perfect . No , not even you . [ The American Journal of Human GeneticsviaNPR ]
