The basic constituent ofBatman ’s relationships with the Jokerand Catwoman are so ingrained in everyone ’s intellect at this point that it ’s much , much more fun when comics settle to veer off the beaten path a little morsel . Take , for example , Gotham High , from author Melissa de la Cruz and artist Thomas Pitilli .
In this telling , Bruce is still a brood racy male child , Jack Napier ( the Joker ’s give name ) is still a troublemaker , and Selina Kyle ’s very much a person who delight in emotionally misrepresent mass to get what she wants . But Gotham High suppose them all as adolescent who all grew up as friends in Gotham City before Bruce was shipped off to Arkham Academy , an elite prep school for the rich and wealthy .
After Bruce gets expelled for stick up a bully , he returns to Gotham to find that everyone near to him ’s grown up and changed . In aninterview with Entertainment Weekly , de la Cruz explain that in addition to the changes Bruce pass through in the Scripture , she also wanted to change his beginning somewhat in decree to make him feel more real and familiar .

“ Bruce Wayne is the billionaire . He ’s the deep world live . So I thought , would n’t it be fun if his family was Taiwanese and from Hong Kong ? Gotham High , de la Cruz elaborated , is very much a Batman story , but it ’s also infuse with the energies of thing like Crazy Rich Asians and Gossip Girl that contribute themselves to the book ’s central honey triangle and the conflict it induce . Small detail like Alfred being Bruce ’s uncle ( who bump to be gay ) make Gotham high-pitched sound like a Bible much more rooted in our current world than a lot of DC ’s other books , which gives us all the more ground to look onwards to its release .
