I upgrade my iPad toiOS 4.2today . I was so happy . Then I spent 30 minutes wondering why I turn a loss my audio … until I remembered one of its new “ features ” : Transform the iPad ’s cover lock into the mute switch .

Yes , I ’m obtuse . After writing and whining about it for months , I all forget about it . But if I forgot about it , you may matter that most of the consumers who buy the iPad will be accept the same chemical reaction : Why there ’s no audio and why the blinking screen wo n’t stay put put in the position I need it to ? In fact , everyone in Gizmodo staff testing the iOS 4.2 beta has hated this raw “ characteristic ” for the last two months . They just could n’t get used to it .

Now , substance abuser should click double on the home release , slice their finger pull up stakes and tap to lock the screen . Who the hell designed this bloody behavior ? The developer of deadly Kombat ? Why not utilise the rap , spigot , swipe go away , lift down , draw circle , twofold - click FINISH HIM ! combo ? Because that would be just as unintelligent as changing the widely know — and widely beloved — behaviour of this shift to the mute function , which was already well served by the volume keys .
