There must have been some strange realism - reversal artefact working behind the scenes at Warehouse 13 when last nighttime ’s instalment was made . All of a sudden , Myka ’s brilliant and awesome , and Claudia ’s kind of a twirp . How did that happen ?
To be fair , I ’ve always liked Myka as a character – she had a few good bit in the first season , specially the sequence with her dad , and she ’s always been smart and funny . But she usually suffers from own to be the “ unbowed man ” to Pete ’s comedy turn . Watching her stand there and roll out her eye while Pete finds out her middle name is Ophelia and say , “ Can Ophelia boobies ? ” is not a state of affairs guaranteed to make us screw her . She ’s mostly upright when she can get out of Pete ’s shadow , though . That just does n’t occur often enough .
Claudia , meanwhile , was a major breather of invigorated melodic phrase when she was introduced in the middle of time of year one – her snarky dialog , like “ Serendipity is my stripper name , ” added a lot to the show , and her family relationship with Artie has been the axis on which everything else has commence turning . Even though she lost a turn of her awesomeness when she spend an entire episode pouting about Leena impersonating her under the McPherson ’s mind - mastery , she ’s remained one of our favorite characters .
So it must be some kind of unearthly mirror - population thing — in last Nox ’s installment , Myka was totally , astonishingly awesome , while Claudia sort of capture on my nerve .
Let ’s take Myka first – we begin off the episode with her sword - fighting , and loosely register how bad - ass she is , which sets up her line of merchandise about how she was get fencing example ( and learning poop ) while other girls were playing with Barbies . And then , through a not entirely ridiculous set of context , Myka has to go undercover as a fashion model . At first , I opine this was a replay of the “ get Myka in a slinky outfit ” thing from a dyad of episodes ago , when Myka had to wear the sexy catsuit to conduct with Simon Tam ’s magic belt . But instead , it managed to turn into an exploration of Myka ’s secret insecurity , and the fact that she palpate unsafe next to beautiful , popular girls … like her baby . We also father to see Myka put Pete in his place a wee bit , with the “ get me deep brown ” bit , although that was only after Jerky McFashionPants called her fat . ( Why was he allowed to be ? ) Sure , Myka got externalize like half-baked this episode – but that was sort of the point , and she got to do it in a path that show how powerful and chic she was . And she beat the crap out of that one guy wire who came into her salad dressing room , and excuse it by saying she eats food . groovy material !
I even wish Pete a little , when he showed how much he cared about Myka and how determined he was to reverse her premature aging . The chip where Artie starts to ask for a sample of Myka ’s rake , and Pete give it to him before he can stop his time , and says , “ What else ? ” That was a nice bite .
Oh , and the secret of the week was actually a real mystery , in that there were red herring that seemed plausible . I mean , I figured out it was the tv camera in the first act , but the attire seemed at least a strong opening as well , and Jerky McFashionPants had “ Culprit ” written all over him . And the personal assistant lady with the dieting lozenge seemed like a possible sinner also . We also get the solution to the mystery about two - third of the way through , exit time for some extra complications .
As for Claudia , though ? I just was n’t feeling the Claudia love this sentence around . I get that she ’s supposed to be a damaged , unsafe teenager and all that jazz . But she ’s starting to seem just twerpy , peculiarly so shortly after the Leena matter . In finicky , the path she keeps saying Artie owe her a million apologies , after he ’s stuck his neck out for her a lot of meter – it just makes her seem entitled . ( Although she won back a little act of it when she says Artie ’s a good father figure . Because he is , y’know ? ) And the “ date ” with dork male child from the ironware store was sort of terrible to watch – it did n’t feel like a real black first date , it just mat up like Claudia is one of those crazy lady who stomach around tidings stall yelling at the pigeons . Most of all , I got the decided impression the Warehouse crew would have cypher out the “ silverish nitrate ” affair way faster if Claudia had had her fountainhead in the biz alternatively of being so self - absorby .
So if Warehouse 13 can just keep making Myka tank and more interesting , with the sword - fighting and the alert dialogue , while bringing back the rummy , cute Claudia we fell for originally , then the show ’s definitely onto something .
