Julia Louis-Dreyfusenlisted the help of AI for her latest acceptance speech — and the results were hilarious.

As the comedian and actress, 62, took the stage at theWSJ. MagazineInnovator Awards on Wednesday as the evening’s entertainment honoree, she revealed that she had used ChatGPT to write her speech.

Not only did the artificial intelligence chatbot mix up “innovator” with “investor,” it also confused Louis-Dreyfus with fellow actressJulia Roberts, and incorrectly calledJawsactorRichard Dreyfussher grandfather.

Beginning her speech, Louis-Dreyfus told the audience at the Museum of Modern Art that ChatGPT had asked her to “include some of Julia’s biography to personalize remarks.”

“Reflecting on this milestone, I am reminded of the unwavering support of my family and the unyielding dedication of my team that has the been driving force behind my investment strategies and my performances inErin Brockovich, forgive me, andMystic Pizza.”

It was at this moment that the laughing crowd started clapping.

Louis-Dreyfus, who wore a black Prada dress with a white ruffle trim for the event in New York City, then continued, “In this moment of gratitude, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all those who have supported me and inspired me. I am deeply honored to be in you company and the honor of receiving this honor.”

“Thank you and again, thank you, for this incredible honor. An honor which I share with my grandfather, Richard Dreyfuss star ofJaws,” added the Emmy Award-winning star, which garnered plenty of laughs from the audience.

With the AI-produced part of her speech over, she quipped, “Yeah, Chat GPT for AI, the folks who will soon be driving your car and taking your job. Innovation!”

“In the end folks, it’s the humans who do the innovating and the entertaining, and that we recognize my small contribution innovating entertainment is very flattering and wonderful, and I am incredibly grateful,” Louis-Dreyfus added. “Thank you to the folks atWall Street Journal Magazineand to all of you for coming tonight. Thank you very much.”

During herNovember cover interviewwith the publication to mark her being named the entertainment innovator of the year, theSeinfeldstaropened up about her health journeyand reflected on learning she had stage 2 breast cancer,the day after winning her sixth consecutive Emmyaward in September 2017.

Recalling the moment she got the call from her doctor, Louis-Dreyfus revealed that the first thing she did when she hung up the phone was double over with laughter.

“I mean, it felt like it was written. It felt like it was a horrible black comedy,” she toldWSJ. “And then it sort of morphed into crying hysterically.”

She continued of her diagnosis, “You just simply don’t consider it for yourself, you know, that’s sort of the arrogance of human beings. But of course, at some point, we’re all going to bite it.”

Louis-Dreyfus announced she was cancer-free in October 2018 following six rounds of chemo and a double mastectomy.
