“It was clear that the makeup could not overpower [the dress], nor could it be too soft, so I made choices to ensure definition and enhanced structure, but still chose colors in earthy neutrals to complement the airy, delicately printed fabrics of the dress,” Barnes tells PeopleStyle. “Also, I find that Julianne’s blue eyes pop the best when her eyes are a little smoky but not too matte (using warm earthy metallics), which added a compelling dimension with sheen and luster.”

Which is why the “effortless, chic, structured” look was all about the eyes (and the star’s luminous skin!).

“Julianne’s eyes and skin are the two things that help bring out her expressiveness, radiance and sunny personality best,” says Barnes. “Though I have been known to pop her mouth with a red, coral or bright pink on occasion.”

The makeup pro finished the wide-eye look with a couple of coats ofMerle Norman Wicked Lash Mascaraand a fewArdell Individual Flare Lashes in Short Black.

As for the final look, Barnes says Hough was happy with the results (as she always is!).

“She was excited and happy with the look and buzzing with stories from her recent return from a much needed safari vacation with her fiancé Brooks to South Africa,” Barnes tells PeopleStyle. “She was definitely in a very centered, clear-headed and alive state. That’s why I call her my sunshine girl. Who wouldn’t want to be around that?”
