A new billionaire has emerged in Florida!
The owner of last month’swinning ticket in the Mega Millions Aug. 8 jackpot drawinghas finally come forward to claim the $1.602 billion jackpot, officials said Wednesday, reports theAssociated Press. The ticket holder in Florida had the winning numbers 13, 19, 20, 32, and 33 plus the gold Mega Ball 14.
Mega Millions officials explained in an Augustpress releasethat “strong sales pushed the final jackpot amount well past the previous record of $1.537 billion, won in South Carolina on October 23, 2018.”
The victory marks the fourth time that a jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Florida. The ticket was sold at a Publix supermarket in Neptune Beach, per the Associated Press.
The winner’s identity was not discloseddue to Florida lottery laws, which state that the identity of any winner of a $250,000 prize or greater “will be exempt from public disclosure” for 90 days from the date their prize is claimed.

Mega Millions winners have theoption to claim their earnings through cash or an annual payout. Lottery officials did not say if the Florida winner chose a lump sum or annual payout.

Another Mega Millions winning ticket was sold in Florida last month. A ticket matched all six numbers in the Aug. 15 drawing - 18, 39, 42, 57 and 63, plus the gold Mega Ball 7 - and won a $39 million ($18.9 million cash) prize,Mega Millions officials said.
